In early spring 2003, the legislature eliminated Medicaid coverage for 1,200 elderly and disabled Oregonians and capped the number of adults who could participate in the Oregon Basic Health Plan. Oregon Action members mobilized to restore these cuts and supported passage of legislation that tied restoration of eligibility to an increase in taxes. However, anti-tax groups in Oregon gathered enough signatures to defeat the tax increases and eligibility may again be curtailed.
