In 2005, thanks to a fiery campaign led by Oregon Action, Portland became the first city in the country to pass public financing of elections. OA´s membership—particularly in communities of color—championed the cause of Voter Owned Elections, meeting extensively with City Councilors and the City Auditor and delivering 12,000 postcards. OA´s efforts are a big victory for democracy!
