public policy internships · community organizing internships
Description: Public policy internships provide an opportunity to learn about and influence the development of public policy on the state and national levels. Public policy interns conduct policy research and analysis on one or more of NWFCO´s current organizing issues (health care access, food stamps, immigration, welfare, housing, etc.). Some fieldwork and travel is involved. The work products produced by past interns have included: public policy position pieces; published reports; talking points; press releases; fact sheets and flyers; surveys and research protocols.
Interns also work with local grassroots activists and organizers, and play a role in campaign development, outreach, education and training. Interns may travel to one or more of our member organizations to learn how their research and analysis is integrated into community organizing activities on the ground. Interns may also have the opportunity to attend public hearings, legislative meetings, and other campaign events.
Desired qualifications and experience: Applicants should be recent or current students in a field related to public policy. Additional requirements include commitment to economic and social justice and strong writing, interpersonal, and research skills.
Internship locations: Internships are available in Seattle, Wash.
Other information: Summer internships are full-time and for a minimum of 10 weeks; some exceptions may be made. Internships during the academic year may be part-time and are for a minimum of 10 weeks. NWFCO will work with your school to ensure that you receive academic credit or funding for your internship, and work study may also be available.
How to apply: Send or email a resume, short writing sample, list of references, and cover letter describing your interest in the position and any related experience to NWFCO, c/o Carrie Tracy, 1265 S. Main St, Suite 305, Seattle, WA 98144, or carrie(at)nwfco.org. Questions about the Internship Program should be directed to (206) 568-5400.
