In 2005, Montana People´s Action campaigned hard for re-regulation of utilities, following a devastating deregulation that saw the siphoning off of utility assets to poor investments and spiraling energy costs. Posting lawn signs, collecting postcards, and mobilizing leaders in Montana, MPA successfully rallied its members behind "ring-fencing," which insulates utility assets from unregulated risk ventures. The Montana legislature also reauthorized energy assistance for low-income people.
