Idaho Power asked the Public Utilities Commission to approve a 19.9 percent increase in residential rates. ICAN members fought the rate hike with
testimony at public hearings in three cities across the state, a report, street theater and postcards, and won – the PUC granted only a 5.4% average
increase. Following on Idaho Power’s heels, Avista has asked the PUC for a 24 percent base rate increase for electricity, and a 9 percent base rate increase for natural gas. ICAN is preparing to fight this case as
strongly as the Idaho Power case.
